Exalted Ruler's Message

January has come and gone and we welcomed this New Year in with a bang at our New Year's Eve Dance. We had visiting members from the Augusta lodge join us for an evening of fun along with the rest of our attending members and guests.

Jean Louis joined us for his first Friday Night Karaoke during our pizza night and had a blast. Jean Louis will be back on two Friday Nights in February for Karaoke.

February 17th will also be our pizza night so come hungry! Our pizza volunteers make a mean pizza and we have a third topping to add to our list of flavors!

We have a new event we would like to try on February 24 at 6 p.m. called Potluck Fondue night. The lodge will provide the tower of warm chocolate to dip your favorite food into. The potluck part of the event is for individuals to bring in a food item to share to either dip into the chocolate or if you like a different fondue dipping sauce to go with it. A sign-up sheet is on the bar if individuals would like to see what others are bringing and sign up so that we can have a variety of foods to try.

On February 13th during our regular lodge meeting we will be having initiation and PER night where we have Past Exalted Rulers who will be conducting this month's initiation and welcoming our new members.

There will be a dinner for the initiates and their sponsors at 6 p.m. that night prior to the meeting and initiation.

Texas Hold 'Em has gone back to Saturday Nights this year and our next one will be on February 18 with registration starting at 5 p.m. Volunteers are welcome and much appreciated. If you would like to help out or are interesting in playing please come in for 5 p.m.

With today's economy I understand why participation at some of the lodge events has decreased. However, this the time that our lodge needs us the most if we are going to be able to continue to be there for our communities, our youth, our veterans and fellow Elks. I am asking for our 286 members to come and be active in some way and help the lodge.

  Elkdom consists of:

Doing what we can, being where we are

Shining like a glow worm, if you can't be a star

Working like a pulley, if you can't be a crane

Being a wheel greaser, if you can't drive a train"

This is the time of year where our lodge needs us to show our dedication and generosity in order for us to show others that Elkdom is brotherhood and sisterhood in action. Thank you Mike & Maureen Aube for adapting the prayer that elaborates on the idea "Elks Share-Elks Care".

Please come to our February 27th meeting at 7 p.m. to discuss the future of the Lewiston Elks Lodge with the Grand Lodge Steering Committee.
