Maine Elks Association and State President's Visit Jan. 7-8
The Portland Elks Lodge has announced the details of the State President's Visit and Maine Elks Association meeting on the weekend of Jan. 8-9, 2012
The Portland Lodge has reserved a block of 18 rooms at the Wyndham Hotel across from the Maine Mall. They are offerings these rooms for $109 per night plus tax which will include a hot/cold breakfast from 7: 30 to 9:30 a.m. Please mention that you are with the Elks to get this great discount. You can walk over or take the hotel shuttle to the mall.
They are also having a dinner/dance/fundraiser on Saturday, Jan. 7 at the lodge. The meal will be lobster stuffed haddock and apple and apricot stuffed pork loin along with the all fixings and a social hour with a cheeseboard and fresh fruit as well as Mexican dips and chips. The entertainment will be none other than the popular Jose Duddy.
The Lodge is also holding a fundraiser the same night for a Lodge member's grandson, Jacob, who is two years old and has kidney cancer. The cost for the meal is $25 per person, and $2 from every plate sold will go toward Jacob's expenses.
The cutoff date for dinner tickets will be Wednesday, Jan. 4 and admission to the dance only for those who do not wish to attend the dinner is $10 per person.

Elks National Foundation 2012 Legacy Awards due Feb. 1
Is someone in your lodge eligible to apply for an ENF Legacy Award?
A child or grandchild (or step-child, step-grandchild, or legal ward) of a living Elk who joined the order on or before April 1, 2009, or a charter member of a Lodge that was instituted on or after April 1, 2009 may apply for this award. The Elk sponsor must also be a paid-up member through March 31, 2012. Great-grandchildren are not eligible.
Here is a quick test of eligiblity
Are you a high school senior?
If your parent and grandparent are both Elk members, you should apply through the parent's Elks Lodge.
Are you planning to attend an accredited U.S. school, college or university? (Note: Applicants from Guam, Panama, Puerto Rico and the Philippines may apply Legacy Awards toward schools, colleges or universities in their respective homes.)
Do you plan to take the Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) or the American College Test (ACT) by December 31, 2011?
If you answered yes to all the questions above, you can now register to start the application process. Your application must be submitted no later than 12 p.m. (noon) Central Time on February 1, 2012. Click on www.elks.org and look for the Scholarship link for additional information.
The Elks National Foundation is not responsible for any technical errors that may arise as you complete and submit your application. We especially encourage you to upload required documents early, even if you aren't ready to submit your application. In addition, it is in your best interest to submit your application early to avoid any last minute web traffic problems. If your application is received after the contest deadline, it will be ineligible, regardless of the reason for late submission.
Legacy Awards winners will be announced in April 2012.
