Exalted Ruler's Message

  Dear Fellow Elks,

As we close out January, I wonder how badly we will have to pay in February and March for the lack of snow in December and January. Oh well, the joy of living in Maine.

I would like to thank Dave Kaplan and his new Birthday Bash committee for stepping up and continuing the celebrations on the first Friday of the month. Mike and Sue Breton have taken the first step in reviving Friday Night Suppers with one in January and are looking forward to February and March for some more dates. Keep an eye out in the newsletter and at the Lodge for more information.

February looks to be busy with the  Super Bowl rematch of the Patriots and Giants on the 5th. To Steve Lajoie and Tim Davis, my condolences in advance, because “Tom Terrific” won't let it happen again. Come join us at what will be the best Super Bowl Party in town. Bring your friends and enjoy the game on the BIG screen TVs.

With Valentines Day coming, our caterers will be putting on a “Sweetheart Dinner” on Saturday, February 11th. The meat raffle usually held in January will be held on February 19th, don't forget to get your “all-nighter” tickets.

A reminder that member dues are coming due on April 1st. Get your dues paid early and don't miss any of the early functions. Also coming with the year's end, is the deadline to meet the GER's goal of $4.50 per member for Elks National Foundation (ENF). ENF is a major supporter of our programs including Veterans Programs, Scholarships, Hoop Shoot, Soccer Shoot, Drug Awareness and the Dictionary Program to name a few. Please support ENF with whatever you can, it all counts. You can donate by mail, online or at the Lodge through the bartender.

I would like to remind all Elks that we all have a say in how this Lodge is run. If you have concerns or would like to see how thing are done; attend a meeting. All House Committee, Trustee and Lodge meetings are open to all members. I encourage all members to attend these meetings to have your voice heard or to learn more about your Lodge.

Remember, February is the month for the election of the 2012-2013 slate of officers. Nominations are taken at the first meeting and balloting is done at the second meeting of the month.

Yours in Elkdom,

Ralph Colfer

2012 Golf News

Can Exalted Ruler Ralph Colfer and First Lady Tamy keep their hold on the trophy?

The Elks Golf League will tee off, hopefully, early May this year. We will hold a meeting to discuss dues and any changes league members may want. The meeting will take place at the Lodge starting at 6:30 on Wednesday, March 28th. Any person can join, we do not discriminate against handicaps: left or right handed, full body or lite beverages.

Other news; the search is narrowing for my new golf partner. One is still in Texas on the retirement tour and the other lucky candidate is scheduled to be interviewed after the Masters. Stay turned for further developments.

Thank you for your time.

Almost last call for 2011-2012 ENF donations

The 2011-12 Lodge year is coming to a close. The Grand Exalted Ruler set a goal of $4.50 per capita for this year. We still have a long way to go before the Augusta Lodge meets this goal. By meeting this goal, we will be eligible to receive a grant to allow the Lodge to continue to provide dictionaries to all 3rd graders at the local schools. Thank you to those individuals who have made a donation this year. Your donations do make a difference.

There are several ways to make your donation. You can go online to www.Elks.org and donate directly to ENF. It is really easy. You can come to the Lodge and ask the bartender or any Officer for an ENF donation card. You can also send a check payable to “Elks National Foundation” to the Lodge.

Time is short and all donations for this year must be sent and received by ENF by March 15, 2012. Please don't delay any longer and donate now. Thank you.
